Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Senior Estimator to own cost estimates for major energy and rail infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland. The role involves leading pricing, developing methodologies, and supporting the expanding estimating function.

You will collaborate with engineering, procurement and commercial teams and contribute to estimating procedures while shaping the growth of the Energy and Rail divisions within a financially secure international organisation.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Senior Estimator in Energy and Rail.
• Experience with detailed cost estimates for complex engineering projects.
• Background in electrical/mechanical and electrical (M&E) estimating beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of estimating methodologies and pricing structures.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and construction methodologies.
• Experience reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations and assessing risks.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of detailed cost estimates for major energy infrastructure projects (overhead lines, underground cabling, substations, rail).
• Prepare comprehensive pricing breakdowns including labour, plant, materials, equipment, subcontractors and overheads.
• Review drawings, specs and docs to determine construction requirements and costs.
• Undertake quantity takeoffs, bills of quantities and cost calculations.
• Assess construction methodologies, programmes and resources for accurate pricing.
• Obtain and analyse supplier/subcontractor quotations to establish competitive costs.
• Identify pricing risks and opportunities for value engineering.
• Collaborate with design, engineering and commercial teams to develop accurate estimates.
• Review and validate estimates for consistency, accuracy and risk allowances.
• Maintain and improve cost databases and estimating systems.
