Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Estimator to work on energy and rail infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland. The role offers ownership of project pricing, development of accurate cost estimates and support for building a growing estimating function.

Based in Glasgow with flexible hybrid working (3 days in the office, 2 days at home) and multiple UK locations, you will collaborate with engineering, procurement and commercial teams to capture full project costs and drive value

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an Estimator in Energy or rail infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of construction costs and pricing methodologies.
• Experience producing detailed estimates and cost breakdowns.
• Knowledge of overhead lines, underground cabling, substations or power projects.
• Experience estimating M&E works or power-related infrastructure; civil-ES background considered.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for energy and rail infrastructure projects.
• Review drawings, specs and documentation to establish full scope of works.
• Undertake quantities take-offs and pricing breakdowns.
• Calculate labour, plant, material, equipment and subcontractor costs.
• Review supplier and subcontractor quotations for competitive pricing.
• Assess construction methodologies and project programmes for costs.
• Identify risks, assumptions and potential savings.
• Collaborate with engineering and commercial teams to reflect requirements.
• Maintain and improve estimating tools and cost databases.
• Support handover of estimates to commercial and operations teams.
