PW Construction Recruitment is seeking a Senior Estimator for a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor in Maidstone, Kent. The role covers end-to-end tendering, pricing, and bid handover, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and competitiveness.

Senior Estimator - Civil Engineering & Groundworks

Location: Maidstone, Kent

Salary: Up to £70,000 per annum all-in package

PW Construction Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Senior Estimator to join a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Maidstone, Kent.

Responsibilities

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator who is confident taking ownership of tenders and leading bids from initial enquiry and measurement through to submission, negotiation, contract award and handover.

As Senior Estimator, you will take a leading role in preparing accurate, competitive and commercially robust tenders across a range of groundworks and civil engineering projects. You will review tender drawings, specifications, Bills of Quantities and contract documentation, identifying the scope of works together with any commercial, contractual or delivery risks.

The position will involve detailed measurement and quantity take-offs using drawings and Bluebeam, preparing material schedules, issuing subcontractor enquiries, obtaining supplier prices and analysing quotations before incorporating them into the tender. You will use Excel and Candy estimating software to build and develop tender pricing and ensure submissions are accurate, competitive and completed within the client's required format and timescales.

Working closely with Contracts Managers and the wider commercial team, you will help establish construction methodology, programme, sequencing, resource requirements and project risks before tender adjudication. You will also attend site visits and tender meetings with clients and subcontractors and maintain communication with clients throughout the tender and post-tender process. Following submission, you will assist with tender clarifications, amendments and negotiations through to contract award. On successful tenders, you will provide a comprehensive handover to the operational team, including tender summaries, marked-up drawings, measurements, Bills of Quantities and resource information, remaining available to provide advice regarding tender coverage during project delivery.

Candidate Requirements

Candidates should have previous estimating experience within civil engineering, groundworks, structures, formwork and concrete or another closely related construction sector. You should be capable of taking the lead on a bid and managing the estimating process through to submission. Strong measurement and take-off skills are required, together with the commercial awareness to identify pricing, contractual and programme risks. You will need excellent organisational and planning skills and the ability to produce accurate work while managing deadlines within a busy tendering environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will liaise regularly with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, Contracts Managers and colleagues across the commercial, procurement and operational teams.

Candidates should have a high level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and Word, together with experience using Bluebeam PDF measurement software. Working knowledge of Candy Estimating Software would be highly advantageous, although candidates experienced with an equivalent estimating package will also be considered. A full UK driving licence is essential due to the requirement to attend site surveys and meetings.

Package

An all-in remuneration package of up to £70,000 per annum is available, dependent upon experience.
