Job summary

Fisher Civils Ltd, a leading civil engineering contractor based in the UK, is seeking a Senior Estimator to join its commercial team. You'll own major tenders from enquiry through to submission and drive commercially robust outcomes.

The role requires a strong civil engineering background, take-off and cost-forecasting skills, and the ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines while building relationships with clients and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Estimator/Senior Estimator within civil engineering.
• Experience pricing projects £1m–£20m+ and analysing costs.
• Strong understanding of groundworks, infrastructure and civil engineering.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil projects.
• Review tender docs, drawings, specs and scopes of works.
• Produce competitive, robust tenders and manage subcontractor quotes.
• Develop project programmes and preliminaries.
• Present estimates at tender adjudications to senior management.

Senior Estimator - Civil Engineering

Employment Type: Permanent

The Opportunity

We are working with an established and growing civil engineering contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Estimator to join their commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator who is looking to take ownership of major tenders and play a key role in the continued growth of the business.

The successful candidate will have a strong background within civil engineering, groundworks, infrastructure or related sectors, with the ability to manage estimates from initial enquiry through to final submission.

The Role

As Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for:

• Preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil engineering projects.
• Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scopes of works.
• Producing competitive and commercially robust tenders.
• Obtaining and analysing quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Completing take-offs and detailed measurement of works.
• Identifying risks, opportunities and potential value engineering solutions.
• Developing project programmes and associated preliminaries where required.
• Liaising with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Attending tender adjudications and presenting estimates to senior management.
• Supporting the commercial team through the handover from pre-construction to delivery.
• Managing multiple tenders simultaneously while working to strict deadlines.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Proven experience as an Estimator/Senior Estimator within civil engineering.
• Strong knowledge of groundworks, infrastructure and/or general civil engineering.
• Experience pricing projects ranging from approximately £1m-£20m+.
• Excellent understanding of construction costs, labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages.
• Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently and take ownership of the estimating function.
• Experience using estimating/tendering software and Microsoft Excel.
• A strong understanding of UK construction contracts and procurement processes.
