PW Construction Recruitment invites applications for a Junior Estimator based in Maidstone. You will join an established estimating team, supporting the preparation and submission of tenders across groundworks and civil projects.

You will gain hands-on exposure to measurement, tender document control, and cost analysis, with progression from Junior to Estimator as experience grows, plus training on Candy software.

Qualifications

• Strong numerical and analytical abilities with good attention to detail.
• Familiarity with Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Previous experience in construction, groundworks, civil engineering, estimating, procurement or related areas is advantageous but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of accurate and competitive tender submissions.
• Download, review tender docs, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
• Set up and maintain tender files and record tender information accurately.
• Assist with measurement and quantity take-offs for earthworks, drainage, roads, external works, foundations, slabs, services.
• Prepare and issue enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers; collate quotations; check against tender requirements.
• Schedule materials from drawings and specifications; support pricing schedules and commercial documentation.
• Upload bills of quantities and pricing schedules into Candy estimating software with training provided.

Job description

PW Construction Recruitment is recruiting for a Junior Estimator to join a well-established and successful groundworks and civil engineering contractor based in Maidstone.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a long-term career within construction estimating. You will join an experienced estimating team and work closely with Senior Estimators and the Chief Estimator, receiving training and hands‑on exposure to the complete tender process.

The role would suit a Junior Estimator looking to develop their experience, or someone at an earlier stage of their career with strong numerical skills and an interest in groundworks, civil engineering, estimating or commercial construction.

The Role

As Junior Estimator, you will assist with the preparation of accurate and competitive tender submissions across a variety of groundworks and civil engineering projects.

Your responsibilities will include downloading and reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities, setting up and maintaining tender files and ensuring all tender information is accurately recorded and controlled.

You will assist with measurement and quantity take‑offs for packages including earthworks, drainage, roads, external works, foundations, slabs and services.

The position will also involve preparing and issuing enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers, collating returned quotations and assisting the estimating team with checking quotations against tender requirements.

You will schedule materials from drawings, specifications and bills of quantities and assist with tender clarifications, pricing schedules and supporting commercial documentation.

You will also gain experience uploading bills of quantities and pricing schedules into Candy estimating software, with training available where required.

As your experience develops, you will gain greater exposure to pricing, cost analysis, commercial risks and the wider tender decision‑making process.

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for someone with strong numerical and analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and a genuine interest in developing a career within construction estimating.

You should be organised and methodical, comfortable working with numbers, drawings, schedules and technical information and capable of working accurately to deadlines.

Good Microsoft Office skills are required, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.

Previous experience within construction, groundworks, civil engineering, estimating, procurement, commercial administration or another technical environment would be advantageous but is not essential.

A relevant qualification in construction, civil engineering, quantity surveying, estimating, construction management or commercial management would also be beneficial, although candidates with the right aptitude and attitude will be considered.

Experience using Candy estimating software would be advantageous but is not essential, as training can be provided.

Good GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English are expected.
