Job summary

WSP is seeking an environmental construction consultant delivery lead to join our Environmental Management & Assessment team. The role focuses on moving clients from consent to delivery, managing environmental licences, permits and planning requirements to enable construction and ensure compliance.

You will lead post-consent delivery, coordinate multiple disciplines, and provide strategic guidance to ensure safe, profitable and high-quality outcomes across major projects like the Great Grid

Qualifications

• Experience in pre-construction and construction environmental management and delivery, secondary consents, and DCO/TCPA implementation.
• Strong understanding of the transition from primary consent to construction, including discharge of requirements and compliance.
• Experience working client-side, consultant-side or contractor-side during pre-construction and construction phases.
• Ability to establish governance, reporting and assurance processes for environmental commitments and risks.
• Coordination of secondary permits, licences, authorisations and consents across major projects.
• Strong programme awareness and understanding of dependencies, milestones and risks.
• Proven leadership in ambiguous or fast-moving delivery environments.
• Good commercial sense to scope commissions, manage budgets and resource needs.
• Mentoring and leading junior colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Lead growth of WSP's environmental construction and secondary consents capability, identifying market opportunities.
• Oversee scoping and programming of environmental requirements into delivery plans.
• Act as internal and external focal point for environmental delivery across projects and sectors.
• Serve as Project Director or senior strategic lead on post-consent and construction commissions.
• Advise on discharge of environmental planning conditions and DCO requirements.
• Develop environmental compliance processes across design stages.
• Integrate secondary consent activities into project programmes with planners and controls teams.
• Forecast demand, identify resource constraints and develop capability-building plans.
• Mentor and develop junior colleagues, building team resilience.
• Promote a safe, inclusive working culture with health and wellbeing focus.
