AFI-Rentals is hiring a Senior Engineer for the Birmingham depot (West Bromwich) to manage the workshop, oversee the hire fleet, and lead a team of engineers. The role requires strong planning, hands‑on maintenance, and effective customer collaboration, with a focus on keeping machines ready for hire.

You will guide engineers, handle diagnostics and inspections, and drive performance in a fast-paced environment. An CAP licence is preferred, but training is available for the right candidate.

Formación

• Minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
• Competent in electro/hydraulic systems.
• Experienced in fault‑finding/diagnostics.
• Must communicate professionally and motivate the team by leading from the front.
• Able to prioritise tasks in a demanding hire environment.
• CAP Licence preferred but training available for right candidate.
• Sound mechanical/electrical knowledge in a heavy plant LOLER background.

Responsabilidades

AFI is currently recruiting a Senior Engineer at our Birmingham depot (West Bromwich).

You will be responsible for the smooth running of our West Bromwich depot together with maintaining our expanding hire rental fleet. This challenging position requires someone with the ability to manage people, work to targets, manage a workshop, and work closely with our busy hire office.

About the Role

• Overseeing and organising the day-to‑day running of the workshop and workloads for your team of engineers.
• Using forward planning to ensure the optimum availability of machinery ready for hire, ensuring machines are serviced, LOLER inspected, PDId, and repaired to schedule.
• Hands‑on repair, preventative maintenance and inspections of machines.
• Offering help and guidance to your team of engineers to ensure that they complete tasks effectively and efficiently.

Requirements

• Minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
• Competent in electro/hydraulic systems.
• Experienced in fault‑finding/diagnostics.
• You will be working closely with customers and colleagues, so you must be able to communicate professionally and motivate your team by leading from the front.
• Able to prioritise tasks in an ever‑changing, demanding hire environment.
• Preferably holds a CAP (Competent Assessed Person) licence for inspecting powered access equipment (not mandatory as full training can be given for the right person to works towards CAP).
• You should have sound mechanical/electrical knowledge in a heavy plant LOLER background, e.g. powered access, forklifts etc
