Job summary

AFI Group is recruiting a Senior Engineer at the West Bromwich depot. You will oversee the workshop, plan for machine availability, supervise a team of engineers, and perform hands-on maintenance and inspections. Strong leadership and diagnostics skills are essential to drive performance.

The role requires managing workloads, coordinating with the hire office, and maintaining service schedules. NVQ2 or equivalent is required; CAP training is welcome but not mandatory, with opportunities for

Qualifications

• Minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
• Competent in electro/hydraulic systems.
• Experienced in fault-finding/diagnostics.
• Able to communicate professionally and motivate the team.
• Able to prioritise tasks in a busy hire environment.
• CAP licence preferred; training available.
• Strong mechanical/electrical knowledge in heavy plant and LOLER.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing day-to-day running of the workshop and workloads for the team of engineers.
• Plan to ensure machinery availability, servicing, LOLER inspection, PDI, and repairs to schedule.
• Hands-on repair, preventative maintenance and inspections of machines.
• Provide guidance to engineers to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
• Manage West Bromwich depot operations and collaborate with hire office.

About the Role

• Overseeing and organising the day-to-day running of the workshop and workloads for your team of engineers.
• Using forward planning to ensure the optimum availability of machinery ready for hire, ensuring machines are serviced, LOLER inspected, PDId, and repaired to schedule.
• Hands-on repair, preventative maintenance and inspections of machines.
• Offering help and guidance to your team of engineers to ensure that they complete tasks effectively and efficiently.

• You will be working closely with customers and colleagues, so you must be able to communicate professionally and motivate your team by leading from the front.
• Able to prioritise tasks in an ever-changing, demanding hire environment.
• Preferably holds a CAP (Competent Assessed Person) licence for inspecting powered access equipment (not mandatory as full training can be given for the right person to works towards CAP).
• You should have sound mechanical/electrical knowledge in a heavy plant LOLER background, e.g. powered access, forklifts etc.

AFI is currently recruiting a Senior Engineer at our Birmingham depot (West Bromwich).

You will be responsible for the smooth running of our West Bromwich depot together with maintaining our expanding hire rental fleet. This challenging position requires someone with the ability to manage people, work to targets, manage a workshop, and work closely with our busy hire office.
