Job summary

Kier is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our civil, structural and/or geotechnical team across the UK, with locations including Manchester, London, Birmingham and more. The role offers agile working with up to 1–2 days from home and a 40-hour week.

You will lead delivery of temporary works design, check complex designs, support tenders and planning, and provide technical support to construction teams.

Qualifications

• Incumbent should hold IEng or be working towards CEng with relevant experience.
• Experience in temporary works design and/or management is essential.
• Strong organisation and communication skills, with safety and buildability focus.
• Knowledge of applicable design standards and constructability principles.

Responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, and 3D models, ensuring CDM/SHE/QA compliance.
• Acting as Project Lead for multiple projects, managing scope, programme and relationships with teams from bid through delivery.
• Developing the team and processes to improve efficiency and adapt to challenges.

Job DescriptionSenior EngineerWe're looking for civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK. Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired. Hours: 40 hours per week flexibility on hours available if desired. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.

Are you Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards? An Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with an equivalent level of experience? Do you Enjoy applying first principles thinking to real-world construction challenges, combining a keen eye for detail with sound engineering judgement, a focus on safety, buildability, sustainability and a flair for innovation and creative problem-solving? Have experience of temporary works design and/or management, or other practical construction experience? Have strong organisational and communication skills, and enjoy working as part of collaborative teams? What will you be responsible for?

Leading the delivery of a broad range of construction engineering services, including some or all of: temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.

Main responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE procedures and QA processes
• Acting as Project Lead for multiple projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery
• Developing yourself, other individuals and the wider team, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges
