Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design and develop robust embedded Linux control platforms and networked control systems. You will work on Zephyr or bare-metal subsystems, Yocto Linux within controller environments, and secure communication across distributed processing elements.

You will collaborate with RF, FPGA, hardware, and systems engineers to ensure reliable data and control flow across CAN buses, networks, and serial interfaces, with

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in low-level embedded systems development.
• Strong professional experience in embedded Linux software development.
• Experience with RTOS and/or bare-metal development.
• Proven prototype board bring-up experience.
• Strong C/C++ for embedded systems, with optimization for CPU/RAM.
• Knowledge of Gigabit Ethernet, CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, RS422.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain subsystem firmware in Zephyr or bare-metal environments.
• Architect and maintain embedded Linux systems using Yocto.
• Support board bring-up with diagnostic tools and debugging techniques.
• Design and maintain board-to-board communication protocols.
• Design and maintain networking interfaces, REST APIs, SNMP, and OpenAPI specs.
• Implement and debug TCP/UDP, low-level networking, and protocol performance.
• Develop secure communication methods including OTA updates and hardening.
• Use tools like Nmap/OpenVAS/Nessus to assess security.
• Develop system services, daemons, device drivers, and middleware on embedded Linux.
• Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for embedded networking and security issues.
• Define embedded software requirements, interfaces, and documentation.
• Collaborate with hardware/FPGA/systems engineers on data/control flow.
