Job summary

Nabu Casa is seeking a Senior Embedded Linux OS Engineer to join the Hardware Team and drive embedded Linux enablement across our Home Assistant OS hardware platforms.

You will own Buildroot-based development, board support packages, bootloader configuration, and long‑term maintainability, collaborating with Home Assistant OS contributors and the Open Home Foundation to expand platform support.

Qualifications

• Strong embedded Linux experience with Buildroot/Yocto and cross-compilation.
• Deep understanding of Linux OS, services, bring-up, reliability.
• Experience with bootloaders, partitions, OTA and device lifecycle.
• Ability to read/write C/C++ for drivers and low-level work.
• Strong Python for automation and tooling; security hardening awareness.
• Experience with Home Assistant OS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve Home Assistant OS support across hardware platforms.
• Collaborate with Open Home Foundation to enable new hardware platforms.
• Support board bring-up: Buildroot config, BSPs, bootloader, partitions.
• Optimize OS performance, hardware utilization, stability, reliability.
• Maintain Buildroot-based build infrastructure for reproducibility.
• Investigate platform issues; debug boot, drivers, power management.
• Patch upstreams to Linux, U-Boot, Buildroot as needed.
• Work with silicon vendors and maintainers to improve support.
• Contribute to OS security hardening and CI pipelines.
• Document architecture, status, debugging procedures, and decisions.
