Mirion Technologies (IST) designs and manufactures a range of CCTV and imaging systems for inspection, surveillance, and monitoring in industries such as Nuclear (power plants, reprocessing, decommissioning), Cement, Pulp and Paper, Power (gas, coal, oil), Steel, Glass, Petrochemical, and Waste Incineration.

The Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced engineer to join our Projects & Design team to provide electro-mechanical design and development from concept to production. You will create electronic design solutions from scratch and incorporate off-the-shelf products where applicable for cameras and imaging systems used within hazardous environments such as nuclear and high-temperature industrial applications.

This role requires a professional with extensive experience in Electronics engineering, a strong technical background, and the ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions, managing complex projects, and driving continuous improvement in engineering processes.

This is a full-time position based in Farnborough and belongs to the Technologies Group (EMEA/APAC), reporting to the Projects & Design Manager.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of a Senior Electronic Engineer include, but are not limited to:

• Electronic design and integration with other design specialities, such as mechanical design and software development
• Creating circuit topologies and schematics
• Leading product and project design stages from concept to deployment
• Design and implementation of test rigs for design verification and functional testing
• Conducting design evaluations, verifications, and proving trials, such as radiation trials
• Generating reports, test specifications, verification procedures, manuals, and master data within the ERP system (Item data, BOMs, Routes)
• Participation in design reviews with internal and external customers
• Design for manufacture ensuring products are safe, reliable, and meet industry standards
• Supporting the Technical Construction File creation for product compliance verification

Other Responsibilities

• Creating PCB layouts and drawings
• Incorporating design change requests and performing robust root cause analysis and lessons learned
• Liaison with subcontract manufacturers and quality assurance providers for design support, certification, and qualification purposes
• Providing technical support and fault diagnosis for internal customers, such as production, test departments, and procurement
• Providing technical support for sales and the service team regarding product applications, customer inquiries, and fault diagnosis
• Supporting staff training for succession planning and reduction of single points of failure
• Participation in continuous improvement initiatives as necessary

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Senior Electronic Engineer are:

Essential

• Qualified to a minimum degree level in a relevant field (or equivalent experience)
• Strong electronics design and development skills, microprocessor integration, and analogue circuit design
• Experience in high-speed, multilayer PCB design
• Experience in microcontroller and FPGA circuits and modules
• Knowledge of PCBA fabrication process
• Experience using Spice simulation and related EDA software
• Strong fault diagnosis skills
• Good knowledge of safety compliance
• Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills
• Ability to review and prioritize workload with stakeholders and the electrical team

Desirable

• 10+ years of experience
• PCB layout CAD skills
• Analogue signal processing and video experience
• Knowledge of digital video protocols
• Good understanding of EMC compliance
• Knowledge about radiation-tolerant/hardened components and systems
• Experience with EMC testing equipment and setup
• Experience conducting hardware qualification testing
• Experience preparing cost sheets for sales inquiries
• Experience in nuclear and high-temperature applications
• Experience working on new product and development introductions
