Job summary

JTL is seeking an experienced Electrical Tutor at the Tyneside Training Centre to deliver Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician training. You will plan and deliver theory and practical learning, oversee apprentice progress and ensure timely qualification completion at the centre.

Qualifications

• Level 2 and Level 3 Technical Certificates in Electrical Installation, or equivalent.
• Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or equivalent.
• Current BS 7671 18th Edition qualification, including the current amendment.
• Level 3 Inspection and Testing qualification, where required by the curriculum.
• Level 3 TAQA Award, A1, D32/D33 or equivalent assessor qualification.
• At least two years’ relevant teaching or training experience within apprenticeships, further education, work-based learning or a comparable environment.
• Verifiable electrical industry experience.
• Experience of delivering and assessing theoretical and practical electrical learning.
• Experience of planning and adapting teaching to meet individual and group needs.
• Experience of taking responsibility for learner progress and achievement.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
• Confidence using digital technologies to support teaching, learning and assessment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality theoretical and practical teaching for apprentices undertaking the Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship.
• Take full responsibility for the progress and achievement of allocated apprentice groups while attending the training centre.
• Plan, sequence and adapt teaching to meet individual and group needs, including apprentices who require additional support or further challenge.
• Use effective pedagogical approaches, including questioning, assessment for learning, checking understanding and retrieval practice.
• Follow and contribute to JTL's centrally developed curriculum, schemes of work and learning resources.
• Use practical demonstrations, digital learning and e-learning approaches to promote engagement and the application of technical knowledge and skills.
• Assess apprentices’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills in line with qualification, awarding organisation and organisational requirements.
• Mark assignments and practical assessments accurately and within agreed timescales, providing clear and developmental feedback.
• Monitor attendance, punctuality, engagement, progress and achievement, taking timely action where concerns arise.
• Identify apprentices at risk of falling behind and implement appropriate support and intervention with relevant colleagues.
• Promote personal development, employability skills, professional behaviours and industry awareness through teaching and JTL’s Steps to Success curriculum.
• Embed English, mathematics and digital skills within vocational teaching and practical activities.
• Promote safeguarding, Prevent, equality, diversity and inclusion, British Values and health and safety throughout delivery.
• Maintain high standards of apprentice behaviour, welfare and safe working practice within classrooms and workshops.
• Work collaboratively with Training Officers and other colleagues to provide a joined-up and supportive apprentice experience.
• Contribute to curriculum development, standardisation, quality assurance and continuous improvement activity.
• Share effective practice and provide support, coaching or guidance to Early Career Tutors and other colleagues where appropriate.
• Maintain current technical knowledge, occupational competence and teaching practice through continuing professional development.

Education

Level 2/3 Technical Certificates in Electrical Installation, or equivalent

Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or equivalent

Current BS 7671 18th Edition qualification, including the current amendment

Level 3 Inspection and Testing qualification

Level 3 TAQA Award, A1, D32/D33 or equivalent assessor qualification

Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, or equivalent higher-level teaching qualification

GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent

ECS Card or equivalent

Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Installation, or equivalent

IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification

First Aid qualification

Fire Marshal training

Current PASMA qualification
