Job summary

Calibre Search is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in Portsmouth for a hybrid role. You will design building services for defence estates, central government and critical national infrastructure, with drawings that survive security vetting.

Lead electrical design from survey through commissioning, collaborate with mechanical, architectural and structural teams, and mentor junior engineers while travelling occasionally within the South.

Qualifications

Senior Electrical Engineer

Most consultancies say they work on "interesting projects." This one designs building services for defence estates, central government and critical national infrastructure, where the drawings have to survive security vetting as well as a design review.

They're a multi-discipline design and build consultancy based in Portsmouth, and the last couple of years have been a good story. New leadership has brought proper structure and calm. Projects go out on time, clients notice, and more work is coming in. The business gets more profitable every month and is now hiring to keep up.

The Role

• Lead electrical design on defence, government and public sector projects, from survey and feasibility through to commissioning
• Lighting, power, small power, life safety and security systems in live, secure and regulated environments
• Some travel to sites across the South and South West, with day trips kept within about two hours
• Work closely with the mechanical, architectural and structures teams under one roof
• Principal candidates will take on design oversight, mentoring and client leadership

About You

• Consultancy background in building services electrical design (this matters more than anything else on the list)
• Confident with lighting design software such as Dialux and the calcs that go with it
• Senior candidates with solid, independent design experience
• Based within roughly an hour of Portsmouth (Southampton, Winchester, Chichester and so on), or happy to relocate. People moving down from London or Birmingham are very welcome
• Eligible for UK security clearance. Because of the nature of the work, this generally means at least five years as a British national
