Job summary

AECOM invites an Associate Ecologist to join our Nature team across UK offices including Manchester, Leeds, Cambridge, and more. You’ll lead ecological inputs, oversee complex assessments, and mentor colleagues while delivering on large infrastructure projects in energy, water, and transport sectors.

With strong field skills and a proactive health and safety approach, you’ll shape technical capabilities, win bids, and engage with planning authorities and stakeholders to deliver Biodiversity Net

Qualifications

  • Experience planning and delivering ecological services on UK/Ireland projects.
  • Well-developed understanding of wildlife conservation.
  • Membership of a professional institution and evidence of working towards Chartership (CIEEM).
  • Excellent field skills in protected species licences.
  • Proactive approach to health and safety.
  • Mentoring and supporting ecology team members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and delivery of ecological inputs for internal and external clients.
  • Produce and technically review ecological assessments including PEA, baseline reports, EIAs, HRA, and Biodiversity Net Gain calculations.
  • Provide technical leadership for proportionate and pragmatic solutions.
  • Lead consultation with clients and stakeholders including planning authorities and public bodies.
  • Support development of technical capabilities and embed innovation/research.
  • Lead bids and tenders for ecological services.
  • Mentor junior staff and peers.
