Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Ecologist to join our UK Nature team across multiple offices, including Manchester. You will lead ecological inputs for infrastructure and local projects, using advanced survey techniques and delivering robust assessments.

You will manage projects, mentor junior staff, support bids, and help develop innovative approaches within a collaborative, hybrid-working environment that values diversity and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Experience planning and delivering ecological services on UK/ROI projects.
• Strong understanding of wildlife conservation and habitats.
• Membership in a professional institution and working toward Chartership (e.g., CIEEM).
• Excellent field skills in protected species licences.
• Proactive approach to health and safety.
• Ability to mentor ecology team members.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and delivery of ecological inputs for clients and projects.
• Produce and review ecological assessments (e.g., PEA, Protected Species Baseline, EIA, HRA, Biodiversity Net Gain).
• Provide technical leadership for pragmatic, proportionate solutions.
• Lead client and stakeholder consultations with planning authorities and the public.
• Support development of technical capabilities and innovation.
• Lead bids and tenders for ecological services.
• Mentor junior staff and peers.
