Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Ecologist to join our UK Nature team with opportunities across offices including Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and more. You will lead ecological inputs, manage projects and provide technical leadership across a mix of infrastructure and environmental work.

The role offers a hybrid working model, ongoing training, and mentoring. You’ll contribute to bids, species surveys, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain calculations, shaping impactful

Qualifications

  • Demonstratable experience in planning and delivery of ecological services on projects in the UK or Ireland.
  • Well-developed understanding of relevant wildlife conservation.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution and evidence of working towards Chartership (such as CIEEM or related).
  • Excellent field skills in at least one specialist area including any protected species licences.
  • A proactive approach to Health and Safety.
  • Mentoring and supporting ecology team members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and delivery of ecological inputs for both internal and external clients.
  • Produce and technically review a range of ecological assessments including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal; Protected Species Baseline Reports; Ecological Impact Assessments; Habitats Regulations Assessment; Biodiversity Net Gain Calculations.
  • Provide technical leadership to support the delivery of proportionate and pragmatic solutions.
  • Lead consultation and engagement with clients and project stakeholders including planning authorities, statutory bodies and the public.
  • Support the continued development of technical capabilities and embedding innovation/research.
  • Lead the production of bids and tenders for ecological services.
  • Mentor and support junior staff and peers.
