Job summary

VolkerFitzpatrick is seeking a Principal Ecologist to lead ecological strategy and compliance across its construction and civil engineering projects. You will drive biodiversity enhancement while ensuring legislative and client obligations are met, providing senior technical guidance to project teams.

The role requires a degree in ecology or related field, CIEEM membership, and extensive experience on major projects, with UK wildlife legislation knowledge and a UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or related field.
• Full Membership of CIEEM (essential).
• Extensive experience leading ecology on major construction or civil engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, protected species licensing and planning requirements.
• Experience in large-scale impact assessments and complex mitigation design.
• CSCS card (or ability to obtain).
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead ecological strategy, risk management and compliance across VolkerFitzpatrick projects.
• Provide senior technical expertise to meet legislative and client obligations.
• Drive biodiversity enhancement across the business.
• Support on multiple projects with ecology input from planning through delivery.
