Job summary

VolkerFitzpatrick is seeking a Principal Ecologist to lead ecological strategy and risk management across major construction and civil engineering projects. You will ensure compliance with UK wildlife legislation and biodiversity obligations while driving enhancements across the business.

The role requires extensive experience, CIEEM membership, and a strong track record in mitigation design and protected species surveys within large-scale projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or related field.
• Full Membership of CIEEM (essential).
• Extensive experience leading ecology on major construction or civil engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, protected species licensing and planning requirements.
• Experienced in large-scale impact assessments and complex mitigation design.
• CSCS card (or ability to obtain).
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead ecological strategy, risk management and compliance across VolkerFitzpatrick’s construction and civil engineering projects.
• Provide senior technical expertise to ensure projects meet legislative, client and environmental obligations.
• Drive biodiversity enhancement across the business.
