Job summary

VolkerFitzpatrick, part of VolkerWessels UK, seeks a Principal Ecologist to lead ecological strategy across multiple projects in construction and civil engineering. You will ensure compliance with UK wildlife legislation, manage risk and deliver biodiversity enhancements, while guiding junior staff.

Requirements include a degree in Ecology or Environmental Science, Full CIEEM membership, and proven project leadership in ecology.

Qualifications

• Must have degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or related field.
• Full Membership of CIEEM (essential).
• Extensive experience leading ecology on major construction or civil engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, protected species licensing and planning requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead ecological strategy, risk management and compliance across projects.
• Provide senior technical direction and ensure regulatory obligations are met.
• Drive biodiversity enhancement across the business.
• Lead production of ecological assessments and mitigation designs.
