Job summary

NCIC is seeking a senior leader to head patient safety and mortality systems, ensuring insights from safety events and mortality reviews translate into measurable improvements. You will work with the Medical Directorate and QI teams to embed safety learning across clinical services and governance structures.

The role requires strategic leadership, robust regulatory understanding and the ability to drive change in complex, sensitive situations within North Cumbria.

Qualifications

• Masters level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• PSS accreditation or willingness to undertake training on appointment.
• First degree or equivalent experience in healthcare.
• Postgraduate qualification in patient safety, quality improvement, human factors, or related field.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development in patient safety and governance.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for patient safety and mortality systems across NCIC.
• Lead development of an intelligence-led safety system with measurable improvements.
• Collaborate with Quality Improvement function to embed learning into programmes.
• Advise across governance, regulatory, and board level on safety and learning.
• Champion a just culture, human factors and safety learning across the Trust.

Education

Masters level or equivalent

Patient Safety Specialist accreditation (PSS) or willingness to undertake training
