Job summary

PIB Group is seeking a commercially minded Senior Development Underwriter to help expand the business, assess complex risks and craft thoughtful underwriting solutions from its Leatherhead base. You will blend technical skill with a proactive approach to grow opportunities and strengthen broker partnerships.

You will lead development across New Business and Renewals, monitor market dynamics, and collaborate with managers to deliver underwriting strategy in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Senior level experience in underwriting or related leadership roles.
• Minimum 10 years of underwrting experience in insurance in a FCA-regulated environment.
• Proven track record of managing people and teams.
• Strong understanding of FCA T&C regulations and compliance.
• Solid technical knowledge of commercial property insurance.
• Experience developing broker relationships and partnerships.
• Ability to manage P&L and drive profitability.
• Experience leading teams through transitional change.

Responsibilities

• Assist in underwriting, administration, management and development of Charity, Faith and Recruitment products for brokers.
• Develop existing products and create new niche sector propositions.
• Monitor competitors and identify differentiators in pricing or product.
• Collaborate with Sales to optimise distribution models and maximise potential.
• Flag pricing or performance concerns and contribute to performance reviews.
• Support senior underwriters with data and commentary on business performance and underwriting strategy.
• Monitor account performance against insurer targets and ensure timely reporting.
• Assist with QA, regulatory reporting and consumer duty reporting.

Are you a commercially minded underwriter who enjoys building broker relationships and finding opportunities for growth? We’re looking for a Senior Development Underwriter to help expand our business, assess complex risks and deliver thoughtful underwriting solutions. You’ll combine technical expertise with a proactive approach to developing new opportunities and strengthening existing partnerships.

What you’ll be doing:

• Working across both New Business and Renewals you will assist in the Underwriting, Administration, Management and Development of the Charity, Faith and Recruitment products in accordance with individual and collective targets and service levels. Using your experience, knowledge, and skills to deal with New Business, Renewals and MTAs for our Brokers.
• Supporting and working directly with the technical leads you will work on development of our existing products whilst developing new niche sector propositions.
• To constantly monitor the development of our peer competitors allowing for us to be focused on key development requirements and potential product or segment differentiators.
• Working with the management team and Q’s Sales team you will work on our distribution model ensuring it maximises our potential.
• To monitor and feedback areas of concern in and around pricing or performance.
• To support the Senior team working with the MGU to provide data and commentary in relation to business performance whilst assisting the delivery of the underwriting strategy and guidance as agreed to the team.
• Asist in monitoring the performance of the account in line with Insurer target COR’s.
• You will support the lead technical underwriters in all duties to include but not limited to ensuring, operational regulatory and Insurer returns are made in good time to include but not limited to QA, breach, GDPR, complaint reporting, product governance returns and consumer duty reporting.

What we’re looking for:

• Experience of working at a senior level.
• You will have experience of working within a regulated FCA environment with a minimum 10 years’ Underwriting experience in the Insurance Industry with a good level of property experience.
• You will have and be able to demonstrate a proven successful record of managing people.
• Understanding of the FCA T&C role and importance of Compliance within a regulated industry.
• You will have a good technical knowledge of commercial property insurance business and understanding of sector specific commercial schemes
• You will have an in depth understanding of the Broker market & ability to develop effective broker relationships.
• An understanding of working through and delivering P&L’s
• Ability to lead a team through a transitional change ensuring that the focus remains on delivering a high quality of service and is aligned to the business objectives.
