Job summary

RBG is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to contribute to early-stage civil and structural design across rail, highways, energy, and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. You will coordinate with networks and teams to deliver cohesive solutions and support inspection, strengthening and replacement design of operational infrastructure such as bridges.

The role requires strong knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB and Network Rail standards, plus proficiency in 3D structural design software (LUSAS,

Qualifications

• A degree in Structural Engineering or Civil & Structural Engineering with a strong interest in structural design.
• Ideally Chartered with ICE, IStructE or internationally recognised equivalent, or near Chartership.
• Familiarity with Eurocodes, DMRB and Network Rail design/assessment standards.
• Proficiency in 3D structural design software (LUSAS, MIDAS, Strand7 or similar).

Responsibilities

• Lead client liaison and support business development.
• Coordinate project delivery, resources, and design documentation.
• Develop engineering solutions and lead design philosophy.
• Produce preliminary and detailed designs for temporary and permanent works.
• Carry out design checking, technical reporting and subcontractor coordination.
• Develop erection schemes and specialist engineering methodologies.
• Support Associates and Associate Directors with resource planning and tech delivery.
• Support cost control, fee proposals, and project variations.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical support to site teams.
• Ensure temporary works are designed, checked and constructed safely.
• Mentor junior engineers and support team development.
• Ensure compliance with Quality, Health & Safety and RBG procedures.
