Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead data science initiatives within the Data Insights team. You will tackle high-impact, national-scale challenges using machine learning, optimisation and AI to drive smarter decisions and measurable business outcomes.

You will work with large datasets, modern technologies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organisation to deliver impactful data-driven solutions.

Qualifications

• Master's in a quantitative field or equivalent practical experience.
• End-to-end data science delivery from exploration through deployment and monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of statistical modelling, machine learning and optimisation techniques.
• Experience with AI technologies and modern foundation models to solve business problems.
• Proficiency in Python and commonly used data science libraries.
• Strong SQL skills.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Knowledge of reproducible data science practices, including version control and testing.
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex concepts into business insights.

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Data Insights team and play a leading role in solving some of our most important business challenges. • Representing Royal Mail's data science capability through presentations, reports, publications and knowledge sharing.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with commercial thinking and the ability to influence stakeholders.

You'll bring:

• A Master's degree, or equivalent practical experience, in a quantitative discipline such as Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or Engineering.
• Proven experience delivering end-to-end data science solutions from exploration through to deployment and monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of statistical modelling, machine learning and optimisation techniques.
• Experience using AI technologies and modern foundation models to solve business problems or improve workflows.
• Expertise in Python and commonly used data science and machine learning libraries.
• Strong SQL skills.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Knowledge of software engineering and reproducible data science practices, including version control, testing and experiment tracking.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into meaningful business insights.
