Job summary

Rightmove is seeking a Senior Data Engineer II to lead the data platform that underpins the UK’s largest property marketplace. The role blends deep technical expertise with strategic influence to build scalable, reliable data infrastructure and guide data engineering practices across the organisation.

You will drive platform capabilities for analytics, ML, and AI-driven workflows, with a focus on transitioning to AI-assisted data engineering and strong governance.

Qualifications

• Significant technical leadership in data engineering or data platform roles.
• Strong architectural expertise across modern data & AI platforms.
• Experience transitioning to an AI-native Data Engineering landscape.
• Mentoring and developing engineers; knowledge sharing.
• Strong Python and SQL with dbt, Spark and Terraform.
• Experience with GCP, IaC, and CI/CD practices.
• Deep understanding of data storage, modelling (lakehouse), governance, GDPR.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and evolution of Rightmove's data platform for scalability and reliability.
• Own architecture for data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and processing.
• Oversee integration with tools like dbt, Spark and Beam.
• Drive data quality, observability, security, testing, and deployment standards.
• Collaborate with Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and product teams.
• Evaluate new technologies; promote AI-powered workflows.
• Contribute to data platform roadmap and investment decisions.
• Grow the team's technical capability through mentoring and example.
