Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Lead Data Engineer in London (on-site). You will own and scale the data foundations behind an AI-driven operations platform used by property teams, delivering scalable data pipelines and real-time processing.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated data engineering or backend ownership in a start-up/scale-up.
• Degree in computing from a Russell Group university.
• Proficient Python engineering skills.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience with performance tuning and queries.
• Exposure to NoSQL systems and distributed data architectures.
• Experience with vector databases and vector search in AI workflows.
• Ability to build data pipelines from scratch in fast-moving product environments.
• Cloud experience across AWS, GCP or Azure; GCP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable data pipelines and distributed data systems.
• Design ingestion, transformation and storage patterns for operational and AI workloads.
• Deliver batch and real-time/streaming pipelines.
• Build and optimise vector search and retrieval pipelines for AI features.
• Implement monitoring, observability and data quality frameworks.
• Drive security, reliability and governance across the data layer.
• Partner with backend and AI engineers to support training, inference and product delivery.
• Influence technical direction and help shape the data team as the company scales.
