Job summary

Rightmove is seeking a Senior Data Engineer II to shape the data platform underpinning the UK’s largest property marketplace. You’ll combine deep technical expertise with strategic impact, building scalable data infrastructure and guiding data engineering practices across the org.

You will drive platform capabilities for analytics, ML and AI initiatives, with a focus on AI-assisted data engineering and production-scale pipelines.

Qualifications

• Significant technical leadership in data engineering or data platform roles.
• Architectural expertise across data ingestion, processing, storage and transformation.
• Experience transitioning to AI-native data engineering.
• Strong Python and SQL engineering with dbt, Spark and Terraform.
• Experience with GCP, IaC and CI/CD practices.
• Understanding of data governance and GDPR in platform architecture.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction.
• Excellent communication for technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and evolution of Rightmove’s data platform for scale and reliability.
• Own architecture and shared capabilities across ingestion, transformation and processing.
• Oversee integration with tools like dbt, Spark and Beam.
• Drive data quality, observability, security, testing and deployment standards.
• Collaborate with Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers and product teams.
• Evaluate new technologies and promote AI-powered workflows.
• Contribute to the data platform roadmap and investment decisions.
• Mentor engineers and grow the team’s technical capability.
