Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a senior data engineer to lead delivery of data engineering projects across major infrastructure initiatives. You will design and optimise data platforms, build ETL/ELT pipelines in Azure, and mentor junior engineers as part of a growing Geospatial and Data team.

Qualifications

• Experience in data engineering with demonstrable database ownership or administration responsibilities.
• Strong SQL Server/database design, optimisation and performance tuning.
• Experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT solutions and data integration architectures.
• Strong Python development skills for automation, data transformation and analytics.
• Experience working with Azure data technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics and Data Lake.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience mentoring, coaching or developing junior colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day technical delivery of data engineering projects from concept to delivery.
• Design, build and optimise enterprise data platforms and data pipelines.
• Develop robust data models to support analytics and decision-making.
• Champion automation and best practices in scripting, testing, and deployments.
• Mentor junior engineers and analysts and foster learning across the team.
• Collaborate with GIS and digital specialists to develop integrated geospatial data solutions.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders, communicating technical concepts effectively.
