You will take ownership of debt recovery activities, support the management of junior team members, and uphold strong cash flow across the business.

Responsibilities

• Drives timely debt recovery across a portfolio of customer accounts.
• Monitors aged debt and produces regular reports for senior management.
• Uploads invoices to customer payment portals.
• Supervises and supports Credit Control Assistants.
• Assists with payment allocations and bank reconciliations.
• Maintains accurate records and reporting of outstanding debt.
• Builds and develops strong relationships with customers.
• Resolves customer queries through collaboration with finance and operational teams.
• Ensures credit control processes are followed effectively and efficiently.

Butler Rose is delighted to be working with a well‑established and rapidly growing organisation in the specialist services sector to recruit an experienced Senior Credit Controller for their finance team based in Plymouth. As a key member of the finance function, you will take ownership of debt recovery activities, support the management of junior team members, and play an important role in maintaining strong cash flow across the business.

The Role

Key responsibilities will include:

• Driving timely debt recovery across a portfolio of customer accounts
• Monitoring aged debt and producing regular reports for senior management
• Uploading invoices to customer payment portals
• Supervising and supporting Credit Control Assistants
• Assisting with payment allocations and bank reconciliations
• Maintaining accurate records and reporting of outstanding debt
• Building and developing strong relationships with customers
• Resolving customer queries through collaboration with finance and operational teams
• Ensuring credit control processes are followed effectively and efficiently

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• Proven experience within a credit control role
• Strong debt collection and account management skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• The ability to build positive and professional customer relationships
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Experience using accounting software packages and Microsoft Office applications
• Previous experience within construction, engineering, contracting, or a related industry would be advantageous
• AAT qualification, or equivalent finance qualification, would be beneficial but is not essential
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members would be desirable
