Job summary

Omega in Gloucester is seeking a Controls Engineer to develop and support control systems for special purpose automated machinery sold worldwide. You will programme PLC/HMI and motion control, configure distributed IO, and integrate vision systems for inspection using Cognex or similar.

You will ensure safety compliance, prepare comprehensive technical documentation, and provide on-site customer support with international travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Qualified to HNC / HND or equivalent in a software related discipline.
• Proven experience of PLC, HMI and motion programming, preferably using listed platforms.
• Knowledge of Rockwell Logix, Studio 5000, FTViewME and Siemens TIA Portal advantageous.
• Knowledge of vision systems preferable and robotics applications.
• Excellent communication skills, self-motivated and adaptable to change.
• Able to travel internationally to customer sites.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PLC, HMI and Motion Control programming and modification work.
• Configure networked control systems with distributed IO.
• Program and integrate vision systems for inspection using Cognex or similar.
• Provide control system support for prototype, new machine builds and field equipment.
• Ensure machine safety to relevant international standards.
• Prepare support documents for manufacturing, testing and customer packages.
• Provide customer support and travel on site as required.
• Identify opportunities for process, productivity and quality improvements.
• Participate in product development and ongoing improvement.
