Job summary

Hunter Selection Ltd. is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer for a major FMCG site in the West Midlands. The role focuses on developing and maintaining site controls, electrical infrastructure, and automation systems.

You will lead a small control engineering team, ensure compliance with electrical standards, and drive improvements across PLC, SCADA, and network systems. A background in FMCG manufacturing and strong leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in electrical/controls engineering in FMCG/food manufacturing.
• Experience as a PLC programmer with Mitsubishi and/or Allen-Bradley.
• Experience as Site Electrical Duty Holder and knowledge of electrical regs.

Responsibilities

• Manage a small team of shift controls engineers and set development plans.
• Oversee electrical standards, control systems, safety, and compliance.
• Design, specify, and purchase electrical equipment.
• Program and modify PLCs; maintain documentation.
• Supervise SCADA/HMI and Network Systems; monitor performance for CI.

Do you want to work for a leading food manufacturer, that values hard work, teamwork and developing people. They are part of a global group with multiple sites in the UK, this is their biggest factory employing over 500 people. They are looking for an experienced Senior Controls Engineer, to develop and maintain all site controls, automation and electrical infrastructure.

Role & Responsibilities as the Senior Controls Engineer:

• Managing a small team of shift controls engineers – development plans, objectives, training
• Responsible for all matters relating to electrical standards and control systems
• Be the Site Electrical Duty Holder – understanding electrical safety, legislation & compliance
• Design, specification and purchasing of electrical equipment
• PLC – programming, upgrades, modifications, documentation
• SCADA Systems, HMI’s, Network Systems
• Monitor and track performance of controls equipment against continuous improvement activities

Knowledge, Skills & Experience needed to be the Senior Controls Engineer:

• Must have worked in an FMCG / Food manufacturing environment
• Be an experienced electrical / control expert – 10+ years
• PLC – programmer – ideally Mitsubishi & Allen-Bradley
• Prior experience of being a Site Electrical Duty Holder
• Knowledge of electrical legislation, regulations, permits to work, isolation procedures
• Proactive person, strong problem solver and sound decision-making skills
• Ideally have previously led a small team of controls engineers
• Knowledge of SCADA systems, HMI’s & Network Systems
