Job summary

NTWRX in Chesterfield is seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to join our growing engineering team. You will own and deliver bespoke automation projects from design through commissioning.

The role focuses on PLC programming across multiple platforms, HMI/SCADA development, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers within a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Controls Engineer or Senior Controls Engineer.
• Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with multiple PLC platforms (Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Omron or similar).
• Knowledge of HMI development and SCADA systems.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Experience leading automation projects from design through commissioning.
• Hands-on engineering approach with problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and programme PLC-based control systems for bespoke automation machinery.
• Work across PLC platforms including Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron.
• Develop and configure HMI and SCADA systems.
• Produce and review electrical control system designs, schematics and documentation.
• Lead controls projects from concept to installation and commissioning.
• Carry out fault-finding, debugging and optimisation of automated machinery.
• Support commissioning activities on-site and at customer locations.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical and project engineering teams to meet specs.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Controls Engineer with strong PLC programming experience across a variety of platforms, looking to take ownership of technical projects from initial design through to commissioning.

You will work on a diverse range of automation projects, developing control systems, integrating machinery and delivering innovative engineering solutions across multiple industries.

The Role
