Motor Control Software Engineer (Senior / Principal)

Location: Warwickshire, UK

Salary: £65-75k + bonus + benefits (negotiable)

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced software engineer to develop motor control software for a broad variety of customers across multiple e-mobility / electric vehicle sectors.

Based in Leamington Spa.

Required:

• Essential: Proven experience developing software for traction motors used directly for e-mobility applications (land, sea, or air - e.g., automotive electric vehicle EDU systems, drone propulsion, marine electric powertrains, etc.)
• Experience in developing embedded software or model-based software
• Experience in capturing requirements and developing software architecture
• Good technical leadership, mentoring, and communication skills

In this role, you will take customer projects from concept to prototype, developing systems from scratch, integrating hardware, and conducting lab testing to produce validated prototypes for customer handover.

This role requires experience in embedded C software development or model-based software development using Matlab / Simulink.

Candidates should have a systems understanding and ideally have worked in various e-mobility domains (e.g., automotive, aerospace, off-highway, marine).

Skills / Experience Required:

• A relevant degree or master's (e.g., electronics, computer science, automotive engineering)
• 8-10 years post-academic experience, including significant motor control software development for e-mobility systems
• Proven experience with model-based software development using Matlab / Simulink or embedded C programming
• Essential: Experience developing software for traction motors used in e-mobility applications
• Practical engineering aptitude (e.g., deploying software on hardware platforms within electromechanical systems)
• Ability to lead projects, mentor juniors, and collaborate with customers
• Experience with autocode tools (e.g., Embedded Coder) is a plus
• Innovative problem-solving skills demonstrated in engineering projects

Our client seeks a senior or principal motor control software engineer to advance proof of concepts to prototypes and production-ready designs.

Domain knowledge in motor control software for vehicle propulsion (land, sea, or air) is essential.

This principal engineer role is onsite 3 days/week and accessible from Birmingham, Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry, and Lutterworth.
