Motor Control Software Engineer (Senior / Principal)

Location: Warwickshire, UK

Salary: £65-75k + bonus + benefits (negotiable)

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced software engineer to develop motor control software for various customers in the e-mobility / electric vehicle sectors.

Based in Leamington Spa.

Required:

• ESSENTIAL: Proven experience developing software for traction motors used in e-mobility applications (land, sea, or air), such as automotive electric vehicles, drone propulsion, marine electric powertrains, etc.
• Experience in developing embedded software or model-based software.
• Experience capturing requirements and developing software architecture.
• Strong technical leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.

In this role, you will take customer projects from concept to prototype, developing systems from scratch, integrating hardware, and testing to produce validated prototypes.

This role requires experience in embedded C software development or model-based software development using Matlab/Simulink.

Candidates should have a systems understanding and ideally have worked in various e-mobility domains (automotive, aerospace, marine, etc.).

Skills / Experience:

• A relevant degree or master's (electronics, computer science, automotive engineering, etc.).
• 8-10 years post-academic experience, including significant motor control software development for e-mobility systems.
• Experience with model-based software development using Matlab/Simulink or embedded C programming.
• ESSENTIAL: Proven experience developing software for traction motors used in e-mobility applications.
• Practical engineering aptitude, including hardware integration.
• Ability to lead projects, mentor juniors, and collaborate with customers.
• Experience with autocode tools like Embedded Coder is advantageous.
• Demonstrated innovation and problem-solving skills.

The client seeks a senior or principal motor control software engineer to advance proof-of-concept projects to prototypes and production-ready designs.

Domain knowledge in motor control software for vehicle propulsion is critical.

This principal engineer role is onsite (3 days/week) and accessible from Birmingham, Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry, and Lutterworth.
