Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Senior Contract Manager for the Procurement & Commercial team. You will support significant RIIO T3 Onshore Capital Delivery projects, negotiating terms, managing costs, and ensuring compliance with the Commercial Manual.

The role requires a Quantity Surveying degree, professional membership, and 5+ years post-graduate experience. Location options include Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, or Perth with flexible-first patterns.

Qualifications

• Experience in estimating, cost and budget management, and contract administration.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate contract terms for high-value projects (£20M–£500M) and manage delivery costs.
• Lead stakeholder engagement, influence decisions, resolve disputes.
• Oversee cost reporting, cost forecasting, and change management procedures.
• Provide post-contract commercial management, including compensation events.

Base Location

You will be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations : Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, and Perth.

Salary

£59,800 - £89,800 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Senior Contract Managers to join our Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team supporting the RIIO T3 Onshore Capital Delivery programme.

Reporting to the Procurement & Commercial Manager, you will provide the necessary pre and post contract procurement and commercial support to some the largest projects within the SSEN Transmission business.

This role would someone from a Quantity Surveying background with experience working either Client or Contractor side, no specific experience working in Energy sector is required but would be advantageous.

You will

• Negotiate contract T&C’s for projects of significant value (from £20M to £500M) and subsequent commercial management of the delivery phase. This will include management of commercial staff and negotiate contract prices and ensure all contract prices can be substantiated and provide value for money to consumers
• Have demonstrable stakeholder engagement and management skills are essential, as is the ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes together with problem solving.
• Deal with cost and forecast management via regular cost reporting and ensuring change management procedures are adhered to, Payment and expenditure management, Cost estimating.
• Provide robust post contract commercial management which will support the project goals and objectives including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensuring that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.

You will have

• A Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification and have or be working towards professional membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS or CICES. No less than 5 yrs post graduate experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of commercial governance arrangements for the development and execution of large capital projects together with commercial, contract or cost experience in delivering projects.
• Experience of estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration
• Experience of drafting and interpreting commercial contracts together with knowledge of Standard Form construction contracts and bespoke contract arrangements. Experience of working with NEC / FIDIC Contracts.
