SSE is hiring a Senior Contract Manager to join the Procurement & Commercial Team within the Transmission Development Directorate. The role focuses on onshore projects with a £12Bn forecast spend over 10 years.

You will lead procurement strategy, contract negotiations, and governance for high-value packages across the development phase. Candidates should have pre/post contract experience in capital projects, experience with NEC/FIDIC/LOGIC, and strong cost management skills.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and implementing strategies for procurement and governance.
• Proven track record procuring and managing main package contracts.
• Deputising for senior P&C team members and governance papers.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, FIDIC or LOGIC contract forms.
• Experience cost reporting, forecasting, accruals and supplier payments.

• Manage a portfolio of Projects and lead on procurement strategies and execution from tender to award.
• Deliver contract terms negotiations and price discussions for main packages within regulatory frameworks.
• Engage internal and external stakeholders; influence, lead, and resolve disputes.
• Support cost estimating and ensure all evidence justifies estimates to stakeholders.
• Support cost and forecast management with regular cost reporting and change control.
• Provide robust contract commercial management aligned to project goals.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Contract Manager to join our Procurement and Commercial Team within the Transmission Development Directorate focussing on onshore development projects. The Network Transmission business is forecasting a £12Bn spend within the next 10 years across their key capital projects both onshore and offshore and the successful candidate will play an instrumental role in supporting these projects as they progress through the development phase.

We are looking for candidates to have both pre and post contract experience of high value capital projects preferably within transmission or a similar industry. The candidate will be a methodical thinker, who has experience in strategy development and implementation. Offshore (Marine/Subsea) project experience will be beneficial but not essential.

You will

• Support the Procurement and Commercial Manager in providing a world class procurement and commercial service to internal customers, ensuring all aspects of development are following internal controls as established through the Large Capital Projects Governance and Commercial Manuals.
• Manage a portfolio of Projects and lead on procurement activities such as the development of Project procurement strategies, managing the procurement process, negotiation of contract terms and conditions and price for main package contracts through to contract award and delivery whilst ensuring compliance with the Utilities Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2016 and the Procurement Act 2023.
• Manage all procurement activities for capital projects from issue of invitation to tender through to contract award and subsequent commercial management throughout the development and delivery phases.
• Demonstrable internal and external stakeholder engagement and management skills are essential, as is the ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes together with problem solving.
• Supporting cost estimating to the required standard and accuracy. Ensure all relevant evidence is included within the estimate to justify to internal and external stakeholders such as Ofgem.
• Support cost and forecast management via regular cost reporting and ensuring change management procedures are adhered to; Payment and expenditure management
• Provide robust contract commercial management which will support the project goals and objectives.

You have

• A Quantity Surveying, Law, or relevant Business Degree, with experience in a similar role where you were responsible for developing and implementing strategies, procuring and managing main package contracts, preparing development and delivery governance papers, and deputising for Senior members of the P&C Team.
• Offshore (Marine/Subsea) project experience within transmission or a similar industry beneficial, but not essential.
• Experience and competence with conditions of contract including NEC, FIDIC or LOGIC.
• Experience and competency on all cost management issues including cost reporting, forecasting, accrual management and supply chain payments.
• Knowledge of relevant statutory and legal provisions and detailed knowledge of procurement and commercial policies and procedures.
• Experience in undertaking market intelligence/market engagement and benchmarking activities to inform supply chain strategy.
