Job summary

SSE plc is recruiting a Contract Manager to join our Procurement and Commercial team in the Network Operations space. You will support pre- and post-contract activities for a £600-700m project portfolio with values up to £70-80m, focusing on value for money and robust commercial processes.

The role suits a Quantity Surveyor with 5+ years post-graduate experience, with NEC knowledge and experience in contract administration.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification with professional membership (RICS/CICES).
  • 5+ years post graduate experience in cost/contract management and estimation.
  • Experience drafting and interpreting commercial contracts; familiarity with NEC and standard form contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate contract terms and prices for high-value projects in Network Operations.
  • Oversee post-contract commercial management, change control and compensation events.
  • Support asset handover with robust Service Contracts for HVDC, cables, FACTS and GIS.
  • Identify improvements and opportunities within P&C for Network Operations.
  • Manage cost and forecast reporting, ensuring adherence to Commercial Manual principles.

Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations :Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow and Perth

Salary: £51,600- £77,400 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Contract Managers to join our Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team within our Supply Chain team, directly supporting the Network Operations team.

You will provide the necessary pre and post contract procurement and commercial support to a variety of new Contracts within the Network Operations space, supporting the management of a £600-700m portfolio of projects ranging in value up to £70-80m. This is an excellent opportunity to grow within the SSE team and contribute to the continued growth of this area of the business.

This role would suit someone from a Quantity Surveying background with experience working either Client or Contractor side, no specific experience working in Energy sector is required but would be advantageous.

You will
  • Negotiate contract T&C’s for projects of significant value within Network Operations followed by the commercial management of the delivery phase. This will include the ability to negotiate contract prices and ensure all contract prices can be substantiated and provide value for money to consumers
  • Support the handover of assets and ensure robust Service Contracts for HVDC Converter, HVDC Cables, FACTS, and GIS, including contract negotiation and commercial management during delivery.
  • Assist the team in shaping strategies for future Network Operations requirements and add value by identifying new working methods and opportunities within P&C for the Network Operations Team
  • To negotiate contract prices and ensure all contract prices can be substantiated and provide value for money to consumers.
  • Demonstrable stakeholder engagement and management skills are essential, as is the ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes together with problem solving.
  • Cost and forecast management via regular cost reporting and ensuring change management procedures are adhered to, Payment and expenditure management, Cost estimating.
  • Provide robust post contract commercial management which will support the project goals and objectives including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensuring that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures, promote safety and safe working practices both internally and externally to improve safety performance.
You have
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification and have or be working towards professional membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS or CICES. No less than 5 yrs post graduate experience.
  • Experience of estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration
  • Experience of drafting and interpreting commercial contracts together with knowledge of Standard Form construction contracts and bespoke contract arrangements. Experience of working with NEC.
