Job summary

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant in Paediatric Palliative Medicine to join the Paediatric Palliative Care Team at Birmingham Children's Hospital. The role covers children and young people with life-limiting conditions across hospital, community and regional networks.

The post involves leading multidisciplinary care, complex symptom management, advance care planning and bereavement support, with 8 programmed activities and scope to develop services

Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist paediatric palliative medicine to children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions across the region.
• Provide expert clinical leadership in symptom management, advance care planning, complex decision making and end of life care.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across secondary, tertiary and quaternary paediatric services.
• Undertake community-based clinical activity and support healthcare professionals across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of regional paediatric palliative care services and clinical networks.
• Participate in teaching, training, clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development activities.
• Support the education and development of medical, nursing and allied health professional colleagues.
• Promote research and innovation within paediatric palliative care where appropriate.
