Job summary

Sir Robert McAlpine in Cambridge is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join the Cambridge Civic Quarter project. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will lead engineers, site management and subcontractors to deliver the works safely, on time and to the highest quality.

You will coordinate engineering, design, procurement and construction activities, maintain programme, budget and regulatory compliance, and provide strong technical direction and mentoring to the team.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering multimillion-pound construction projects.
• Strong leadership and people-management skills to mentor teams.
• Collaborative communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing across activities.
• Ability to identify and mitigate project risks and opportunities.
• Experience preparing project reports for management and stakeholders.
• SMSTS qualification.
• Valid CSCS Card.

Responsibilities

• Oversee full construction engineering process ensuring compliance with regs and specs.
• Provide visible leadership, embedding safety-first culture on site.
• Monitor project programme, identify risks and opportunities, implement mitigations.
• Ensure delivery within time and budget, support cost control and value.
• Lead and coordinate engineering teams, staff and subcontractors.
• Maintain client and stakeholder relationships as a technical interface.
• Maintain auditable records of engineering decisions and changes.
• Set short- and long-term project objectives aligned to goals.
• Contribute to project reports on progress, risks, and opportunities.
