Job summary

Pen Underwriting, part of Gallagher, seeks a Senior Development Underwriter/Manager in the UK Construction & Casualty team. Lead our new business plan, grow broker relationships, and manage facilities while maintaining underwriting discipline and insurer appetite.

You will underwrite complex risks, provide technical guidance, and mentor colleagues in a collaborative environment. CII qualifications encouraged.

Qualifications

• Experience in underwriting Construction and Casualty risks, including complex cases.
• Proven track record of developing and converting new business through broker relationships.
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of delegated facilities and portfolio management.
• Leadership skills with mentoring/coaching experience.
• IT proficiency and commitment to personal development.
• CII/Dip CII qualification or progress towards it.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver our new business plan in Construction & Casualty.
• Develop and convert profitable opportunities by building broker relationships.
• Negotiate facilities and ensure underwriting discipline aligns with insurer appetite.
• Act as a senior market-facing representative for Pen’s Construction & Casualty proposition.
• Underwrite complex risks, provide technical guidance, and mentor the team.
