Job summary

Pen Underwriting, part of Gallagher, is seeking a Senior Development Underwriter/Manager for our Construction & Casualty team in the UK. You will lead broker relationships, shape new business, and manage facilities to align with underwriting discipline.

You will underwrite complex risks, provide technical guidance, and mentor others while promoting our Construction & Casualty proposition across the team. This is a collaborative role with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience underwriting Construction and Casualty risks, including complex cases.
• Proven track record developing and converting new business through broker relationships.
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of delegated facilities and portfolio management.
• Commercial awareness and sound underwriting judgement.
• Leadership experience mentoring and coaching colleagues.
• IT proficiency and commitment to personal development.
• CII/Dip CII qualification or progress toward it.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the new business plan for Construction & Casualty.
• Build and manage broker relationships to identify and convert profitable opportunities.
• Negotiate and manage facilities in line with underwriting discipline and insurer appetite.
• Promote Pen’s Construction & Casualty proposition as a senior market-facing representative.
• Underwrite complex risks and provide technical guidance to colleagues.
• Mentor and develop the underwriting team to achieve shared goals.
