Ecclesiastical Insurance UK, part of Benefact Group, is seeking a Technical Underwriter in Gloucester. You will specialise in Commercial Property and Liability, providing expert support on complex cases, governance, and underwriting standards while coaching others to strengthen capabilities.

The role focuses on profitable portfolio performance and continuous improvement. You will work within our Direct Commercial Underwriting Team, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure sound risk decisions,

Qualifications

• Strong technical expertise in Commercial Property and Liability underwriting.
• Experience underwriting complex risks with sound judgement.
• Understanding of portfolio management, risk quality, and profitability.
• Knowledge of underwriting governance and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• ACII or Dip CII or equivalent qualifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, negotiate and profitably underwrite new and existing Commercial Property and Liability business within authority.
• Provide senior technical underwriting expertise and referral support.
• Monitor portfolio performance and identify trends to improve underwriting quality.
• Coach, mentor and develop underwriting capability across the team.
• Support product, pricing, wording, process and system development initiatives.
• Collaborate with underwriting, pricing, claims, risk and operations to implement improvements.
