Job summary

STEP in the United Kingdom is recruiting a Commercial Manager to lead pre- and post-contract commercial activity across complex construction projects.

You will advise on procurement, cost planning, contract strategy, and commercial governance, ensuring value for money while aligning with regulatory standards. Operating with autonomy within IPTs, you will collaborate with internal teams, suppliers and clients to deliver objectives and robust commercial outcomes.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in commercial and/ or procurement on construction, infrastructure, engineering projects or similar.
• Proven ability to manage high-value contracts across the project lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of standard forms of contract (e.g. NEC, bespoke contracts).
• Demonstrable expertise in cost forecasting, valuation, change control, and final accounts.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead pre- and post-contract procurement activities.
• Draft and negotiate complex contracts reflecting project objectives and compliance.
• Manage cost plans, forecasts, and earned value metrics.
• Provide governance and assurance across cost and commercial processes.
• Mentor and lead commercial staff and act as lead authority in meetings with partners.
