Bristol City Leap is an innovative 20-year partnership between Bristol City Council and Ameresco which will accelerate green energy investment in Bristol and help towards decarbonising the whole city.
Bristol City Leap is a world first, game-changing approach towards decarbonisation at city-scale and will deliver a transformative boost in the amount of renewable energy and decarbonised heat powering our city, which in turn means a cleaner, greener and healthier place to live, learn, work and play.

Job Description:
An exciting new opportunity for a Senior Commercial Manager to join the Bristol City Leap Team. We’re seeking an experienced professional to lead the commercial development of renewable and energy efficiency projects. Reporting to the Director, you’ll provide strategic commercial leadership to ensure successful project development of multiple high-profile projects.
This role demands a strong background in cost planning, commercial governance, and project performance, with a proven track record in delivering infrastructure projects. Experience as a QS or working within commercial teams, familiarity with JCT and NEC contracts, and strong skills in cost planning and forecasting are essential.
The ideal candidate will excel in negotiation, communication and stakeholder engagement, and be effective in working with cross-functional teams with a solid grasp of project development.
Key responsibilities:
Develop and implement commercial strategies to support project success
Oversee cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting using internal tools
Work closely with project teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery
This position is based in Bristol City Leap’s offices in Bristol, United Kingdom.
Responsibilities:
Take the lead in financial matters related to the development of projects, with particular focus on the pre-contract phase.
Manage QS support on a range of renewable ( solar, wind) and energy projects (electric vehicle, heat pump, batteries, energy efficiency) via internal resource or external providers.
Develop sound commercial processes for project development, advise members of the development team, promoting a commercial culture within the business.
Develop procurement & contract strategy with the team in order to best develop and deliver projects for the business and clients.
Create cost estimates and budgets and develop these through the design stages, ensuring adherence to company policies and industry standards.
Identify potential areas for cost-saving measures and providing recommendations to the project team
Highlight any commercial risks in projects and mitigation for these. Identifying risks, liabilities and commitments contained within contractual agreements
Supporting the wider development and operational teams to recognise, analyse and mitigate risks bringing real solutions to commercial challenges faced.
Recognise and developing new business opportunities as well as developing new, innovative solutions to commercial challenges
Skills/Experience:
Proven experience in a commercial role either managing or working with QS teams, preferably from the client side, within energy, construction or infrastructure development on multi year projects.
Experience with JCT, NEC or FIDIC and other standard contract models.
Strong background in tendering, proposals, contracts, or project management, with demonstrated experience in turnkey environments.
Experience in cost planning and budgeting for projects
A confident negotiator with the ability to build client relationships whilst mitigating contractual risks
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in the Cost and Commercial Management/ M&E Quantity Surveying field.
Demonstratable experience in multi year projects.
Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.

The successful candidate will be a confident leader, enthusiastic, confident and have a flexible approach to work. They will be customer focused, passionate about energy efficiency and renewable energy. They should be able to demonstrate good commercial skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritise work under pressure and complete within deadlines.
