Job summary

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Clinical Nurse Specialist with vascular surgery experience to deliver high-quality care to patients with peripheral vascular disease, including AAA and diabetic foot complications, as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You will work across Bristol, Bath and Weston vascular networks, performing autonomous clinics and engaging in patient education to support treatment options and risk reduction. Flexible working arrangements are available.

Qualifications

• RGN with current NMC registration.
• Ability to make decisions, act and work independently.
• Hot clinic vascular experience.
• Ability to confidently undertake ABPI, TBI and TCp02.
• Experience of compression bandaging and independent leg ulcer management.
• Full Clean driving license.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development and implementation of vascular pathways and protocols.
• Participate in service redesign and quality improvement initiatives.
• Act as a specialist clinical role model.
• Provide supervision, support and mentorship to staff and students.
• Deliver education and training to multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Participate in audit, research and service evaluation activities.
• Promote evidence-based practice and quality improvement.
• Maintain specialist knowledge of peripheral arterial disease, diabetic foot disease, venous disease, AAA and leg ulcer/complex wound management.
• Work independently within professional, organisational and clinical guidelines.
• Undertake autonomous assessment and management of vascular patients.
• Use professional judgement to prioritise referrals and elevate concerns.
• Coordinate patient pathways across the Bristol, Bath and Weston Vascular Network.
• Manage and prioritise a complex outpatient caseload.
• Organise rapid-access appointments, investigations and MDT reviews.
• Undertake comprehensive vascular assessments, including ABPI and complex wound assessment.
• Perform clinical history taking and physical examination.
• Interpret and accurately document clinical findings and investigations.
• Provide specialist assessment and management for patients with peripheral arterial disease, venous disease and diabetic foot complications.
• Undertake autonomous clinics for new and follow-up patients.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options and risk reduction.
• Coordinate investigations, referrals and ongoing care.
