Job summary

The Vascular Healthcare Science Associate is a member of the Vascular Testing team who supports Clinical Vascular Scientists to meet the departmental clinical and administrative needs.

They will have a responsibility to provide diagnostic tests (within Scope of Practice) care and assistance to patients undergoing vascular ultrasound in the Vascular Testing outpatient department as well as inpatients on the ward, the Emergency Department and peripheral outpatient clinics.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of vascular science and vascular disease.
  • Good written communication skills with accurate documentation.
  • Experience in healthcare/caring settings is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Vascular Testing team to deliver diagnostic vascular services.
  • Perform and report defined diagnostic tests (e.g., ABPI, exercise testing) within scope of practice.
  • Provide administrative support: booking, contacting patients, handling queries, ordering stock.

Job overview

The Vascu la r Healthcare Science Associate is a member of the Vascular Testing team who supports Clinical Vascular Scientists to meet the departmental clinical and administrative needs. They will have a responsibility to provide diagnostic tests (within Scope of Practice) care and assistance to patients undergoing vascular ultrasound in the Vascular Testing outpatient department as well as inpatients on the ward, the Emergency Department and peripheral outpatient clinics.

The post holder will aid the Vascular Testing team in the day to day running of the department, with clinical and administrative tasks to facilitate the throughput of patients attending the department.

Main duties of the job

The Healthcare Science Associate will support the Vascular Testing scientist team deliver the diagnostic vascular service at NBT. You will be working directly with patients, performing and reporting defined diagnostic tests in c luding A B PI’s exercise tes ting, TCP02 .

Individuals with a qualification in AAA scanning will perform the above tests and AAA surveillance at Band 4.

Your role wil l also include providing administrative support, b ooking and contacting patients and dealing with telephone queries , ordering stock and any other associated administrative duties to support the team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who wants to work within Healthcare Science as part of a small team and isflexible and adaptable to change. In addition to anyone who wishes to have a career supporting the vascular scientists , this is an ideal oppo r tunity for individuals considering the scientist training programme and wishes to gain an insight into working w ithin the Physiological Sciences speciality.

Good communication skills are essential in dealing with a wide range of people you will meet.

Education/Qualifications
  • English and Maths GCSE minimum Grade C or equivalent
  • Diploma in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening or equivalent (A) (1 for almost complete, 2 if completed)
  • Competent in ABPI, TBI and TCP02 (3 points for each)
Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of vascular science, the vascular patient and vascular disease (2 points for each area met)
  • Good written communication skills with accurate documentation
Experience
  • Working or volunteering in a healthcare or caring setting
Personal Qualities
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the health care science setting
