Job summary

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineer to ensure robustness, security and efficiency of cloud platforms hosting mission-critical services. You will manage day-to-day operations, drive automation, and enable observability while fostering resilience and cost control.

Travel to Telford is required, with about 60% time based in the office. Security clearance (SC) may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience operating cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
• Proficiency in Linux systems administration.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
• Knowledge of GitLab CI/CD and pipeline design.
• Scripting skills (Python, Bash, Go).
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools.
• Understanding of cloud security best practices.
• Familiarity with ITIL service operations.

Responsibilities

• Own the operational health of our Cloud platforms.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents across our Cloud platforms.
• Drive root-cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitLab.
• Automate testing, security scanning, and compliance checks within pipelines.
• Collaborate across teams on reusable GitLab CI templates and standardising build/release processes.
• Mentor engineers and share best practices across Platform teams.
