Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly team and help shape the future of our pharmacy services at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals.

Role Overview

As a Senior Clinical Pharmacy Technician, you will play a key role in providing high-quality, patient-centred care on the wards at our St Helier site. Your responsibilities include:

  1. Ensuring the accuracy of medication reconciliation, a vital step in patient safety.
  2. Managing Patients’ Own Medication effectively.
  3. Supporting seamless one-stop dispensing for efficient patient care.
  4. Facilitating timely dispensation of To Take Out medications to support patient discharges.
  5. Bridging communication with community healthcare partners to ensure continuity of care.
Additional Responsibilities

This role involves more than medication management; it aims to improve patient safety and contribute to a compassionate healthcare service aligned with our Trust values. Your primary duties include:

  1. Undertaking medicines reconciliation and taking drug histories to ensure correct medication use from the start of hospital stays.
  2. Promoting appropriate use of Patients’ Own Medication and one-stop dispensing.
  3. Assisting throughout the patient journey, especially in ensuring TTOs are dispensed before discharge.
  4. Communicating effectively with community colleagues.
  5. Being an accredited checking technician (ACPT) with regular checking slots.
  6. Participating in medicines management, audits, and financial savings projects.
  7. Participating in late duty, bank holiday, and weekend rotas as part of a seven-day service.

  • St George’s Hospital, a major trauma centre and teaching hospital.
  • St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children.
  • Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).
