Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with strong clinical leadership skills to provide clinical support and medicines expertise to multidisciplinary teams on our inpatient rehabilitation wards in Essex and wider across the organisation.

The role requires effective communication skills, ability to coach, mentor and supervise junior staff, build team morale and improve outcomes for patients through ongoing quality improvement initiatives and service development. You should be able to work collaboratively with staff, patients and families to optimise medication regimes, empower and encourage independence.

You should have a good understanding of governance structures and processes, have excellent organisational skills and understanding of formulary development, policies and guidelines.

The role includes provision of secretariat support to the Trust medicines optimisation group, requiring strict adherence to timelines and ability to organise self and others.

A strong interest in technology and communication is well suited to this role as it includes responsibilities around management and development of the Trust pharmacy and medicines intranet page,

You will represent the organisation, working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners on the development and management of formularies and clinical pathways across Mid & South Essex and North East London integrated care boards.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,551 to a maximum of £5,735).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of an effective clinical pharmacy service on allocated inpatient wards and provide leadership to the pharmacy team and wider multidisciplinary team.

They will be required to supervise junior pharmacy staff, coach and mentor and have line management responsibilities.

They will be involved in delivering medicines related teaching sessions to colleagues and wider teams, lead on audits and quality improvement projects, investigate medicines related incidents and develop robust improvement plans where needed.

They will have responsibilities to write and review medicines related policies and guidelines and support junior staff develop these skills.

Responsible for preparing medicines optimisation group agendas and minutes, maintain the medicines related documents database and be the organisational lead for development of medicines formularies and clinical pathways across the sector.

They should have strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across boundaries with internal teams, external partners and integrated care boards.
