Job summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Chief Clinical Perfusion Scientist to lead the Perfusion Service and deliver patient-centred care. You will shape service development during growth, including expansion of the cardiac surgery programme.

Working with the Clinical Lead, you will manage workforce planning, budgets, policies and governance, while providing expert cardiopulmonary bypass care and support to multidisciplinary teams across the Trust.

Qualifications

• Lead the Perfusion Service with strategic, clinical and operational leadership.
• Deliver expert perfusion care including CPB and mechanical circulatory support.
• Lead policy development, governance, and quality improvement.
• Oversee budgets, resources, and workforce planning.
• Provide on-call clinical presence and senior specialist advice.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic clinical and operational leadership across the Trust.
• Deliver complex perfusion procedures and advanced support therapies.
• Act as senior perfusion specialist for multidisciplinary teams.
• Develop and review clinical policies and evidence-based practice.
• Ensure safe operation and maintenance of perfusion equipment.
• Participate in 24-hour on-call rota and clinical duties.
• Lead clinical governance, audit, risk management, patient safety.
• Contribute to service planning and external meetings.
• Line manage and develop staff including recruitment and succession.
• Manage budgets and procurement per Trust policies.
• Lead research, innovation and service development projects.
• Build stakeholder relationships and ensure governance compliance.
• Investigate incidents and implement improvements.
